The Excellence Center in Europe volunteer programs are very flexible. They are designed to meet your scheduling needs. You may apply year round (no deadline for applying), and you may select your own beginning and ending dates for your program.
In addition, you may schedule your volunteering from one week to three months in duration. It is up to you!

The ‘Volunteer to Teach English in Germany in Summer’ program has been designed to be simple which gives more people the chance to apply and join the program. Thus, you don’t need the following to join the program:
- Prior knowledge of Arabic or German.
- Experience in Teaching English.
- An academic degree.
- A native speaker.
- Any of these certificates; CELTA, TEFL, TESOL or any equivalent.

Who is eligible to apply for volunteer Teaching English in Germany?
If you are between 18 and 70 years old, you may apply to volunteer. No formal academic degree is required; the Excellence Center is eager to embrace diversity in its volunteers.
Volunteers with a wide variety of experience, work and academic, talents, and abilities are invited to apply. Some volunteers may have prior teaching experience, and, as such, they will pay a different fee rate.

Do I need a prior knowledge of Arabic or German?
No prior knowledge of Arabic or German is required to volunteer. The only requirement is that the applicant be a fluent speaker of English in order to teach English.
What is included in my volunteer program fee?
For the duration of your volunteer program, you will reside with a family in Halle. Each week, you will receive three hours of language instruction in either Arabic or German (your choice).
You will have the opportunity to participate in tours of Halle, as well as participating in social and community activities organized by the Center. At the conclusion of your volunteer program, you will receive a certificate of participation as a volunteer and a recommendation letter.
What other things do I need to be aware of before joining the program in Summer?
There are things you need to know and be aware of regarding the program:
- You don’t need to apply for a visa if you come from a country that has signed the Schengen Agreement. For those who come from countries that are a part of this agreement, you are permitted to stay in Germany for up to three months.
- Living costs in Halle might cost approx. 70€ – 100€ per week.
- The easiest way to come to Halle is via Leipzig/Halle Airport but you can also come to one of Berlin’s airports and then to Halle either by bus (Check Flixbus/Eurobus) or train (Check Flixtrain/Deutsche Bhan) which will take 1.5 – 2 hours.
- University credits are available.
Which airport should I fly into?
The easiest way to get to Halle (Saale) and the Excellence Center in Germany is to fly to either;
- Leipzig/Halle Airport: it takes about 25 minutes to get from the airport to the Excellence Center via train.
- Berlin Schönefeld or Berlin-Tegel Airport: If you are coming from one of the Berlin airports, then you have two ways to get to the Excellence Center. First is to come by bus. You can take a bus operated by companies such as FlixBus or Eurolines. The bus ride takes about two hours. The second choice is to come by train from the Berlin-Central Station. The train ride takes about an hour and a half.
- Frankfurt Airport: it takes about 3-4 hours to get from the airport to the Excellence Center via either train or bus (FlixBus or Eurolines).
