Over the past 25 years, the Arabic language has become increasingly important to intercultural and international relations – especially in Germany.
What Is Levantine Arabic
Levantine Arabic, also known as Ammiyya or the Shami dialect, is the subtype of Arabic with which people in countries like Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine communicate. It is a mixture of different speaking styles of the region, that features unique sounds, vocabulary, and grammar rules which set it apart from other Arabic dialects.

Studying Arabic in Germany
The Excellence Center is an amazing and well-recognized destination for intensive Arabic courses for young people and students looking for summer language programs in Europe. The Intensive Summer Levantine Arabic Program 2025 is offered in June, a popular time to join the Excellence Center. Participants are not only students but also active members of the Excellence Center Community and thus have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Arabic language.
An intensive summer Arabic program at the Excellence Center in Europe also offers the possibility of university/college credits. In our accredited summer intensive Arabic courses, students can make exceptional progress in their language skills, preparing for life after college when these skills can be crucial in a competitive job market. Students will leave the Excellence Center with a Certificate of Completion and possible credits toward an internship.
How Are Arabic Classes Conducted?
Classes are conducted in small groups. Students of a similar skill level will be grouped in groups of up to 20. These classes are intensive, immersive Arabic courses that focus on speaking in small groups. Students work on group projects, go through the process of learning a new language together, and make new friends from around the world!
What Is the Level of the Course?
Levantine Beginner Arabic Course: This level is for those who do not have any prior knowledge of the Arabic language and would like to start learning the alphabet. These courses will allow you to gain fundamental skills in reading and writing Arabic as well as understanding and engaging in simple, day-to-day conversations.
Applicants Eligibility Requirements
- Available to anyone between the ages of 16 – 75 (Exceptions made upon special request with the Center’s director)
- Available to all nationalities, religions, sexual orientations, and beliefs
- No prior knowledge of Arabic needed
- An upbeat and can-do attitude
- Interest in learning about other cultures

*Costs include study materials, booklet, and books, placement test, a tour of Halle, breakfast four days a week, accommodation with a host family or in a shared apartment, in-country and pre-departure support with logistics and travel, Arabic classes, and a certificate of completion. How to Get to Halle?
The easiest way to get to the Excellence Center in Germany is to fly to Leipzig/Halle Airport. It takes about 25 minutes to get from the airport to the Excellence Center via train; however, flights into the Leipzig/Halle Airport can be more expensive.
You can also fly into the airport in Berlin (BER), and then you have two ways to get to the Excellence Center. The first is to come by bus. You can take a bus operated by companies such as FlixBus or Eurolines. The bus ride takes about two hours. The second choice is to come by train through Berlin-Central Station or Berlin Südkreuz. The train ride takes around an hour and a half.
