The Excellence Center in Europe was founded in August of 2018 as a sister campus to the original Excellence Center in Palestine, with the purpose of providing youth-initiated community and educational services to the people of Halle, especially the significant immigrant and Arab population. We are centrally located, less than a kilometer from the city center square in downtown Halle.

Convenient Location

Halle (Saale) is a city in the central eastern part of Germany. With a population of 240,000, it is the largest city in the Federal German State of Sachsen-Anhalt. It is convenient and accessible, with trains stopping daily from larger cities such as Hamburg, Munich, and Berlin, and its own regional airport, the Leipzig/Halle Airport.

A common method our volunteers use to reach us is to fly into Berlin Brandenburg Airport and take a train to Halle, which takes less than 2 hours. From the main train station one can take the Number 9 Tram to Franckeplatz, from which our school is only a stone’s throw away. Our address is Leipziger Strasse 16, 06108, Halle (Saale) Sachsen Anhalt, Germany.

Local Amenities

Our school is located along one of the main streets leading into the Marktplatz, which is the central old town part of Halle. The city has an excellent and user-friendly public transport system, with many buses and trams keeping the city and the outlying areas interconnected.

Many of our volunteers utilize these services to get to and from the Center during their stay and we are happy to provide more detailed instructions on how best to use the public transport. Furthermore, there are bakeries, cafes, grocery stores, banks, salons, gyms, and other amenities within easy walking distance, and the city also has lovely parks and museums and old church buildings to explore during your time here. There’s even a zoo!

Our Facilities

The Excellence Center is fully equipped with high-speed wireless internet, multiple classrooms, and a kitchen that has everything you need. You can use it to cook your lunch, or to make tea or coffee anytime for free of charge. We also provide a vegetarian breakfast for our volunteers which we like to share at 9:30 am, starting our day off together, and we ask that all our volunteers assist with either preparation or cleaning up.

You are more than welcome to use the center facilities including laptops, printers, and internet to study, work on your own projects, attend online courses, and prepare for classes. If you would like to stretch your legs and get some fresh air, you’re welcome to use your lunch or your downtime to explore the city and find food from the wide selection of ethnically diverse local restaurants and vendors. Our facilities are open to our volunteers from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm.
