This large number of refugees entering Germany has impacted the life of Germans, just as crisis situations have affected and impacted the lives of people forced to become refugees.

This internship in Germany program is suitable for:

  • College students – especially German studies students, Arabic language students, and international studies majors.
  • Gap year students.
  • University Students who wish to do a semester abroad (university credit)
  • Those who are interested in understanding the issues regarding refugees and immigrants in Germany. 

Internship requirements:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age;
  • Open to intensive hours of Arabic or German language instruction;
  • A positive attitude and openness for learning Arabic and German culture, and the plights of refugees and immigrants in Germany.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Willing to be a part of a family in Halle, Germany.

What you don’t need to join the internship in Germany:

  • You do not need to speak Arabic or German.
  • You do not need to have an academic degree.
  • You do not need experience in teaching English.
  • You do not need to be a student.

The Center offers programs that give you the opportunity to interact and meet refugees from many countries in the world.

The Excellence Center in Europe is located in the city of Halle, Germany, in which about 25,000 refugees and immigrants are living and working in the city. The Center’s qualified staff will help you engage with refugees and the life style of Germans. The Excellence Center is flexible with its scheduling: You decide when you intern, beginning and end dates, so that it accommodates your schedule.

What Does the Internship Program Include?        

You will have the opportunity to live with a host family. This feature of our program is an excellent entry into to learning the daily habits and lifestyles of your Host Family’s culture.  Our internships offer you the perfect environment for learning German or Arabic with our qualified teachers in three hours per week language lessons.

What you learn in class is further enhanced by living with your Host Family and your cultural environment. You will also join tours organized by the Center; these tours will take you to the historical sites of Halle.  Most of all, you will take part in the social and community activities that the Center organizes and presents at its center. Such activities may includes dinners, educational activities, exchange meetings, evening get-togethers, workshops, seminars, to name a few.

How Long do the Opportunity for Internships in Germany with Refugees Last?

At the Excellence Center in Europe you are able to intern from one month up to three months. Your internship week includes two free days off during which time you are able to plan your own activities. These days off might include visiting other cities in Germany or making plans to do things with the other international volunteers or interns.
