Life in Halle (Saale), Germany

Living in Germany a unique experience. International volunteers, students, and interns at the Excellence Center in Europe are given many opportunities to experience the vibrancy of the culture in Halle through culturally immersive activities with Germans, Arab refugees, immigrants and other internationals. The many immigrants and refugees in Halle are typically very friendly, welcoming and generous towards visitors.

International visitors to Germany can live with German or Arab host families and begin to understand the cultures of these families through daily interactions like playing with children, cooking together or eating traditional meals.

On weekends or days off, you can travel to other German cities like Leipzig, Berlin, Dresden, Weimer, and Munich quite easily. If you are looking for a larger adventure, you can bus or train to European countries such as Czech Republic (4 hours bus ride) or the Netherlands (6 hours bus ride).

International visitors to Germany can find entertainment by visiting the charming old city (Marktplatz) or by going to many of the traditional cafe’s or Shisha bars near the Marketplace. There are many historic sites in Germany and Halle in particular including Francke Stiftungen, Haendel Hause, Museums, churches, the old market, and the lovely old architecture of the city. There are also many beautiful landscapes and green areas including parks, lakes, and rivers across the city of Halle (Saale) that are worth visiting. It is also quite easy to find opportunities to participate in different activities with locals such as playing football, going to bars or exercising at fitness centers.
