Intensive German Summer Programs 2025: There is no better place to study German than Germany itself! The Excellence Center in Europeā€™s Intensive German Summer Programs in the city of Halle, Germany is the ideal opportunity to study the German language intensively whilst experiencing daily life and meeting new people in Germany. These Intensive German Summer Programs enable participants to learn German from native German speakers. With the opportunity to interact with native speakers in and out of the classroom, the language courses provide an immersive and effective language learning experience.Ā 

With groups of up to 20 students per language course, our courses provide each student with specialized attention, enabling them to meet their language goals. If a student has any specific needs, the Excellence Center in Europe will do all it can to accommodate this and provide any necessary materials. In addition, lessons may also be arranged to meet any potential credit requirement for university studies.

Our summer German courses are targeted at two levels; a beginner course for people who want to start learning German, and the second intermediate course for those with existing German ability. Both summer courses include immersive language practice as well as the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. 

As a participant in an Intensive German Summer Program, you will become a part of the Excellence Center community. Included in the program are daily community activities and breakfast. Students will tour the city of Halle, meet local people, and engage in cultural, social, and educational activities. Students and interns can make the most of their time in the diverse city of Halle by visiting the local attractions and practicing their German whilst out and about. Halle has several museums with subjects ranging from prehistory to the Beatles! There is plenty of interesting architecture, including Baroque, Renaissance, and modern buildings as well as Gothic churches and impressive towers.

Students will have 4 hours a day, and 20 hours of lessons a week, the summer course will provide 40 hours in the two weeks.

What Levels of German Are Available?

The Intensive German Summer Programs cover levels from A1 to B1: 

  • Beginner Course (A1): This course is designed for students ranging from no prior knowledge of German to those with a basic understanding. For absolute beginners, the course focuses on building foundational skills in reading, writing, and basic conversation. The course provides an opportunity to further improve writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills.
  • Intermediate Course (B1): For students with a solid foundation in German, this course helps refine conversational abilities, focusing on speaking with native German speakers, while also improving reading, writing, and listening skills. Students work towards fluency, honing advanced conversational, reading, and writing skills.

When? 

The Summer Intensive German Programs are ideal for those with a summer break, students on semester breaks, professionals on a sabbatical, or any individuals looking to study on an extended visit to learn German. The Excellence Center in Europe offers summer-intensive German Programs that last from the 15th of June to the 29th of June 2025.

Do I Need to Take a German Placement Test? 

Placement tests will only be taken by students who already possess German language skills, or who have previously studied German. Those who do not have German language skills will be automatically placed in our Starter course A1 program

Program Target Group

In general, the Intensive German Summer Programs are suitable for:

  • Applicants between the ages of 16 and 75 years. Those younger than 16 years may apply. However, at least one parent must sign a parental consent form. Be aware that some countries, such as the US, have laws concerning minors (under 18s) traveling outside of their country. For example, BOTH parents may have to sign a consent form.
  • People with German ancestry who want to learn the language.  
  • Those intending to work or study in Germany.   
  • University students who wish to do a semester abroad for University Credit.
  • Gap year students. 
  • University and college students who are studying German literature, Germanic Studies, European History, and languages.

Are You Eligible for the Program?

Intensive German Summer Programs 2025 are open to anyone between 16 ā€“ 75 years old. People from all countries and majors are welcome to join this program. There are no specific degree requirements. All that is required is the desire to volunteer.

Where in Germany? 

The Excellence Center in Europe is located in Halle (Saale), a city located in the south of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The city is situated along the Saale River and is the largest city in Saxony-Anhalt.  

Halle is near many other German cities such as Leipzig (25 minutes by train), Berlin (two hours by bus and 1 hour by train), and Dresden (two and a half hours by bus). Halle is also close to Prague in the Czech Republic; a bus ride from Halle only takes four and a half hours.   

How to Get to the Excellence Center in Europe?

The easiest way to get to Halle (Saale) and The Excellence Center in Europe is to fly to:

  • Leipzig/Halle Airport: It takes about 25 minutes to get from the airport to the Excellence Center in Europe via train.
  • Berlin Brandenburg Airport: Coming from Berlin? Then you have two ways to get to the Excellence Center in Europe: The first is to come by bus. You can take a bus operated by companies such as FlixBus or Eurolines with the journey taking about two hours. The second choice is to come by train from the Berlin-Central Station. The train ride takes about an hour and a half.
  • Frankfurt Airport: It takes about 3-4 hours to get from the airport to the Excellence Center in Europe via either train or bus (FlixBus or Eurolines).
