One-month internships in Halle, Germany
The Excellence Center in Europe was established in the city of Halle almost eight years ago as a youth initiative to assist the refugees and migrants who live and reside in Halle. The Excellence Center in Europe is a great choice for those who are seeking short-term internship and volunteer programs abroad. The Center offers programs as short as one month in length; however, an intern may participate for up to three months (90 days) in the Teach English in Germany program.
Why are one-month internships in Germany favorable?
One month is a long enough time for an intern to do the following:
- Familiarize one’s self with the city of Halle and participate in and understand the city’s rhythm of life.
- Develop bonds with your host family and gain an understanding of the family’s daily life, traditions, and culture.
- Gain valuable experiences at the Center by sharing your experience and skills with refugees and immigrants.
- Improve and build your language skills through 12 hours of Arabic or German language instruction with the Center’s qualified teachers.
When and how long am I able to intern at the Excellence Center?
Internship programs at the Excellence Center are designed to provide flexibility for you and your schedule.
- You may apply for an internship at any time of the year, and you may also choose your own start and end dates for interning.
- Our programs run from one to three months long – you decide on the length of your commitment.
What are the benefits of the internship programs in Germany offered by the Center?
Your one-time fee includes the following benefits:
- You will reside with a Host Family or in a shared room in the city of Halle. This will provide you with language and cultural immersion.
- You will receive three hours per week of language instruction in either German or Arabic – your choice.
- You will join in the many social and cultural activities organized by the Center.
- Our aim is to build bridges between cultures; therefore, these activities are designed to promote language practice, and cultural exchange between refugees and international interns.
Who is joining Excellence Center internships?
Since its establishment, The Excellence Center has hosted participants from 35 countries, such as Italy, China, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, Japan, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom, to name a few. The Excellence Center in Europe welcomes participants who are between 18 and 75 years old.
Living with a host family in Halle
Living with a host family in Halle (Salle) is a unique experience. Being immersed by living with a host family you will:
- Understand the culture of the family and how they live their daily life;
- Share great moments with the family and be involved in their tradition;
- Practice your Arabic or German in order to improve your language skills.
Do I need to have a knowledge of either Arabic or German to join one of the internships?
No, interns do not need to speak either German or Arabic.
- During your time in Halle you will be provided with three hours a week of either German or Arabic lessons with one of our teachers.
- Interning at the Excellence Center gives you the chance to learn a new language and practice it with local residents, students, and with your host family members.
- English is used only with the Center’s staff, students, and other international volunteers and interns for clear communication.
Do I need a visa to enter Germany?
- If you are coming from a European country that has signed the Schengen agreement, you do not need a visa to enter Germany.
- For those who come from countries that are a part of this program, you are permitted to stay in Germany for up to three months (90 days).
- All other travelers will need to apply for a Schengen visa to enter Germany.
- This visa will allow you to enter and stay in Germany for a maximum period of 3 months (90 days).
- It is important to note that this visa prohibits visa holders from obtaining any kind of employment (even as a freelancer) during their stay.

- Students who are in a Gap year.
- University students who wish to do a semester abroad for credit.
- People who have a particular interest in studying and understanding the issues regarding refugees and immigrants in Germany.
