Why is English important?

English is the official language of fifty-three countries around the world. About 400 million people speak English, which makes it one of the most spoken languages in the world. Some experts consider English to be the modern lingua franca, much as Latin was considered the lingua franca of the ancient world.

If you speak English, your opportunities for communication increase significantly.  English is spoken in the global business market in order to facilitate the business transactions of companies and corporations.  Many companies require English reading, writing, and speaking in their hiring requirements.

As English language usage spread, Germans, as well as other Europeans, became aware of the importance of acquiring additional language fluencies, including fluency in English.

Second language acquisitions prevent isolation and open doors to learning and communication with others across the globe, especially in the case of Europe where country borders are in close proximity to one another.
